1. Metallic Materials

Metallic materials are among the most commonly used materials for manufacturing injection molds. Common metallic materials include steel, aluminum alloys, and copper alloys. Steel is the most common injection mold material due to its high hardness, high strength, high wear resistance, and good machinability, meeting the requirements of most injection molds. Aluminum alloys have lower density, higher thermal conductivity, and better machinability, making them suitable for producing small injection molds. Copper alloys have high thermal conductivity and good corrosion resistance, making them suitable for producing high-requirement injection molds.

 

2. Non-metallic Materials

Non-metallic materials are another category of injection mold materials, mainly including ceramic materials, glass fiber reinforced plastics, and carbon fiber reinforced plastics. Ceramic materials have high hardness, high strength, and good wear resistance, enabling them to withstand the high temperature and high pressure environments of injection mold production. Glass fiber reinforced plastics and carbon fiber reinforced plastics have high strength, high toughness, and lightweight characteristics, making them suitable for producing injection molds with complex shapes.

 

3. Composite Materials

Composite materials are materials made by combining two or more materials, possessing the advantages of both. Commonly used composite materials in injection molds include metal matrix composites, ceramic matrix composites, and plastic matrix composites. Metal matrix composites offer high strength, high toughness, and high-temperature resistance, making them suitable for producing high-requirement injection molds. Ceramic matrix composites offer high hardness, high toughness, and high wear resistance, making them suitable for producing wear-resistant injection molds. Plastic matrix composites offer low density, low cost, and good processability, making them suitable for producing small injection molds.
